The Akron Symphony Orchestra has announced its outdoor summer concert series in collaboration with the City of Akron. The Orchestra will participate in Akron’s Independence Day celebrations with a free concert at Lock 3 on July 4 at 8:00 pm, the first performance of the series.
The ASO will perform Lowden’s Armed Forces Salute, the theme from Rocky, and the “March” from Raiders of the Lost Ark, finishing off with Stars and Stripes Forever. The festivities will conclude with fireworks at 9:45 pm.
Subsequent concerts will begin at 7:30 pm at various parks around the city. The Symphony will perform popular pieces like Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake Suite, John Williams’ Suite from Jaws, and the “March” from Superman, as well as newer works like The Paper Man, a composition by Harrison Collins, a finalist in the 2017 National Young Composers Challenge. The ASO will also perform Tubby the Tuba, featuring principal tuba Ken Heinlein.
The first of the concerts in the park will take place on July 23 at Hardesty Park.
