At the Awards Ceremony on Sunday, August 6, the 2016 Cleveland International Piano Competition bestowed the following awards.
Mixon First Prize
Nikita Mndoyants wins a cash award of $75,000 donated by Mr. and Mrs. A. Malachi Mixon; management services for the next three years; a New York Recital Debut at Weill Hall in Carnegie Hall to take place on June 7, 2017; and a compact disc recording on the Steinway & Sons label.
Second Prize
Knowlton Second Prize of $25,000 to Leonardo Colafelice, Italy
Presented by Karen Knowlton, with major support from Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Manuel and Mrs. Marvin A. Evenchik, additional support from Clara T. Rankin.
Third Prize
Cash award of $15,000 to Dinara Klinton, Ukraine
Endowed by Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Manuel.
Fourth Prize
Cash award of $10,000 to Georgy Tchaidze, Russia
Presented by Dr. and Mrs. Richard S. Kaufman.
Additional awards include:
AAF Award
Awarded to Yufan Yang. A contribution if 1,500 Euro, international publicity, support and practical assistance, offered by the Alink-Argerich Foundation (AAF) for the realization of a next step in the Award winner’s career. The AAF Award is awarded to one of the contestants who is not among the main prize winners of the competition.
Audience Prize
$1,500 presented to Leonardo Colafelice voted Audience Favorite during the final round on August 5 and 6, presented by Shirley B. Dawson.
Baroque Prize
$2,500 to Nikita Mndoyants for the best performance of a Baroque composition,
presented by Art of Beauty/Michael and Zoya Reyzis.
Beethoven Prize
$2,000 to Jong Hai Park for the best performance of a work by Beethoven, endowed
by Barbara Evenchik in memory of Marvin Evenchik.
Cairns Family American Prize
$1,500 to Reed Tetzloff for the best performance of an American work composed after 1944, presented by The Cairns Family Foundation.
Chamber Music Prize
$5,000 for the best performance of a chamber music work during the final round,
presented by George H.L. and Carol Arnold Porter, awarded to Nikita Mndoyants.
Chopin Prize
$4,000 to Jinhyung Park for the best performances of a Chopin composition.
One prize is presented by the William O. and Gertrude Lewis Frohring Foundation in memory of Gertrude Lewis Frohring. Additional support by Jane Szilagyi, in honor of her mother, Elaine Frohring Szylagyi.
Contemporary Prize
$2,500 to Sara Daneshpour for the best performance of a contemporary work,
presented by Art of Beauty/Michael and Zoya Reyzis.
French Prize
$2,500 to Alexei Tartakovsky for the best performance of a composition by a French
composer, presented by Maison Française de Cleveland.
Junior Jury Prize
$1,000 to Leonardo Colafelice voted on by the Junior Jury, presented by the Dan
and Linda Silverberg Philanthropic Funds.
Mozart Prize
$1,500 to Tomoki Sakata for the best performance of a Mozart composition, presented by Dr. and Mrs. Richard S. Kaufman.
Russian Prize
$2,500 to Leonardo Colafelice for the best performance of a composition by a Russian composer, presented by Dr. Boris Vinogradsky and Irina Vinogradsky, Esq.
