“Rich King joined the Cleveland Orchestra horn section in 1988 and he’s taught at CIM all these years,” ART artistic director Feza Zweifel said during an interview. “One of his students, Megan Guegold, is now a member of the horn section.”
King and Guegold will join pianist Joanna Huang in Johannes Brahms’ So Lass uns Wandern, Es Rauschet Das Wasser, and Walpurgisnacht, as well as playing Gunther Schuller’s Duet #1 for Unaccompanied Horns and Chanson (Homage a Darius Milhaud).
Zweifel noted that another example is Tom Sherwood and Tanner Tanyeri who are both in the Orchestra’s percussion section. “Tanner studied with Tom at the University of Michigan.”
Sherwood and Tanyeri will be featured in Andy Akiho’s Karakurenai for Two Musicians, and Thomas Kotcheff’s 5ERVO for two percussionists.
Violinists Mari Sato and James Thompson will be featured in Jean-Marie Leclair’s Sonata for Two Violins in e minor Op. 3 No. 5 and four selections from Béla Bartók’s Duos.
The Orchestra’s principal oboe Frank Rosenwein will be joined by Adrian Gonzalez for Four More Diversions for Two Oboes by Jeffery Rathbun, who is also the Orchestra’s assistant principal oboe.
The program will conclude with a group performance of Andy Akiho’s Karakurenai for Nine Musicians.
