After the completion of its String Quartet Intensive on Sunday, July 2, ENCORE Chamber Music moved its home base from Gilmour Academy to the Cleveland Institute of Music to begin its three-week-long String and Collaborative Piano Academy. “I’m thrilled to bring ENCORE to CIM. The sheer beauty of Mixon Hall will certainly inspire all of us to immerse ourselves in the music,” ENCORE founder and artistic director Jinjoo Cho said by email.
The Academy offers public masterclasses as well as student and faculty performances. Click here to view a complete list of activities.
“The concerts during the String Quartet Intensive were all about the magic of intimate, personal narratives. The next five concerts at CIM celebrate an energetic burst of creativity with program music,” Cho said. “From Prokofiev’s Suite from Romeo and Juliet to Schoenberg’s Verklarte Nacht, we are excited to showcase some of the most vividly colorful pieces in the repertoire.”
Academy performances will also include two of ENCORE’s popular Unplugged concerts. “The Unplugged concerts were inspired by an article in the New York Times that pointed out that classical music concerts had become one of the only occasions to turn off our phones,” Cho said. “The series was created to invite our audience members for an afternoon of ‘digital detox’ by concentrating more on personal interactions with friends, family, and music.”
Cho said that this season has been a transformative experience for students, faculty, and audiences. “We hope to continue the magic with the new group of artists who are traveling to Northeast Ohio for the second part of ENCORE Chamber Music.”
