Blue Streak challenge grant for Voice of the Lake
Cuyahoga Arts and Culture has awarded a $5,000 challenge grant to the Blue Streak Ensemble toward production costs of a professional video recording of Margaret Brouwer’s Voice of the Lake, to bring her oratorio about Lake Erie’s ecological challenges to a wider audience. Matching donations must be received by September 19. The revised oratorio will be performed at the Cleveland Institute of Music on October 19.
Christie resigns from Oberlin, Holy Cross and Wellesley
Internationally-known concert organist James David Christie has resigned as artist-in-residence at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA and will discontinue his services at Wellesley College in the wake of allegations of sexual abuse from several students reported in The Boston Globe on August 24.
He has also resigned from the faculty of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where he has been professor of organ since 2001. Read the Boston Globe story here.

Kalyn to lead New England Conservatory
Andrea Kalyn, Dean of the Oberlin Conservatory since February 2014, has been appointed 17th president of the New England Conservatory. She will take up her new duties in Boston in January, 2019. Read a press release here.
Preucil suspended by Cleveland Orchestra, resigns position at CIM
Following the publication of a July 26 online article in the Washington Post by Anne Midgette and Peggy McGlone detailing previously unreported allegations of sexual harassment by Cleveland Orchestra concertmaster William Preucil, the Orchestra has suspended him with pay while an independent investigation is underway. According to another source, Preucil has resigned from his position as professor of violin at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Read an updated report here.

The Cleveland Orchestra invites adults and middle- and high-school students interested in serving as volunteer ushers and tour guides for the 2018-2019 season to attend open interview sessions in the Smith Lobby at Severance Hall on August 7 and 23 (4:30-6:30 pm), and August 26 (1:00-3:00 pm).
