TODAY’S FEATURED VIDEO:
Videoconferencing applications have become ubiquitous — and in some cases controversial — as the pandemic continues. In addition to facilitating business meetings, distance learning, and remote cocktail parties, such platforms have inspired some enterprising musicians to breathtaking feats of technology.
One example: Toronto Symphony Principal Double Bass Jeffrey Beecher sent 29 of his colleagues sound files of a digital score of Aaron Copland’s “Simple Gifts” tune from Appalachian Spring so they could synchronize recording their individual parts on their phones and send them back. Beecher wrapped those performances into a 4-½ minute video with Zoom-like visual design. Watch it here.
CANCELLATIONS:
Ohio Light Opera has cancelled its entire summer season with plans to repeat its previously announced schedule in 2021. More information here.
