Application deadlines that fall during the month of April include The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra Choruses, the Encore Chamber Music Summer Program, the Bascomb-Little Fund, the Linda and Mitch Hart Institute for Women Conductors, and Make Music Cleveland.
The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, Brett Mitchell, music director, will hear auditions in May for middle school and high school musicians who study privately and play violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, flute, piccolo, oboe, English horn, clarinet, bassoon, contrabassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, tuba, percussion, and keyboard instruments. The Cleveland Orchestra Choruses, including the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, Blossom Festival Chorus, Youth Chorus, Children’s Chorus, and Preparatory Chorus, will hold auditions beginning in late April for the forthcoming Blossom, Summers@Severance, and Severance Hall seasons. Encore Summer Program to be revived. Founded in 1985 by David and Linda Cerone as a summer session of the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Encore School of Strings Festival produced such distinguished alumni as Hilary Hahn, Leila Josefowicz, Ray Chen, Zuill Bailey, and Amir Eldan. Discontinued in 2008, Encore will be reborn as the Encore Chamber Music Summer Program, and relocated to the Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills. The program, which will run from June 12 to July 10, will be directed by Jinjoo Cho and staffed by a faculty that includes the Miró Quartet, the Calidore String Quartet, Paul Katz, Hyun Soo Kim, Jaime Laredo, Paul Kantor, and Benjamin Hochman. Cleveland’s Bascomb-Little Fund, this year celebrating its 50-year history of supporting live performances of new music by Cleveland composers, will accept grant proposals until April 15. (Commissions of new works are excluded.) Details here.
The Linda and Mitch Hart Institute for Women Conductors, to be held at Dallas Opera from November 26 through December 11, is accepting applications through April 22. Female conductors, as well as accomplished women singers, opera coaches and accompanists, and instrumentalists with established careers seeking a new career at the podium are encouraged to apply. Make Music Cleveland is issuing a call for artists and venues for its area-wide Make Music Day on June 21. The deadline for signing up as a venue is June 1. Musicians in all genres can sign up as soloists or as pre-formed groups using special matchmaking software that allows artists to find available venues where they can perform. Details here.
