Today is Palm Sunday in the Western Christian calendar and an appropriate moment to listen to the late Krzyszstov Penderecki’s Passion According to St. Luke. The Polish composer, who died on March 29, wrote the work in 1966. Watch a video of a performance conducted by the composer here, or follow along with Penderecki’s very interesting score here.
TODAY’S FEATURED VIDEO:
Antonio Pompa-Baldi’s performance with the Cleveland Women’s Orchestra, and Yaron Kohlberg’s solo recital on the Music From the Western Reserve series in Hudson are among the events that were scheduled for today, but were cancelled due to the pandemic. Here are two performances by those Cleveland-based pianists to remind us of what we’re missing.
First, Pompa-Baldi’s full recital on the Hudson series in February 2018, then a fun video of an encore from a concert in the Forbidden City concert hall in Beijing in October of 2015, when Kohlberg surprised the audience by bringing his father Etan onstage to join him for the “Berceuse” from Fauré’s Dolly Suite.
TODAY’S STREAMING HIGHLIGHTS:
