Cuyahoga Arts & Culture invites nonprofit organizations presenting arts and cultural programs in Cuyahoga County to apply for funding in 2021. CAC is pleased to offer the following grant opportunities:

2021 Project Support I: Grants up to $25,000 for 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations presenting arts and cultural projects in Cuyahoga County in 2021. Project Support I is available to organizations that have previously received CAC funding. Learn more.

Cuyahoga Arts & Culture to Accelerate Grant Payments

Cuyahoga Arts & Culture (CAC) will accelerate payment of $5.1 million in operating support grants to 65 arts and culture organizations impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

At their annual meeting on April 15, the CAC Board of Trustees approved a plan to expedite the payment of 2020 grant funds to General Operating Support grantees. Typically, the grants are paid out in three installments; under this approved plan, grantees can request all or part of their remaining grant funds now. 

Additionally, the Trustees approved changes to the current Project Support grant agreements, which will eliminate the requirement to have matching funds; allow for reimbursements for projects that incurred expenses but had to be canceled; and provide grantees the opportunity to move their project to a date in 2021.

BlueWater Chamber Orchestra: 15 minutes with oboist Martin Neubert

If you’ve been to an orchestra concert in the area over the last 26 years, you’ve probably heard Martin Neubert’s playing.

Since receiving his master’s from the Cleveland Institute of Music in 1992, the oboist has become a mainstay of the region’s music scene. He’s principal of the BlueWater Chamber Orchestra, Warren Philharmonic, and Opera Western Reserve, and second in the Cleveland Pops Orchestra and Cleveland Chamber Symphony. On top of that, he’s substituted with The Cleveland Orchestra, and performed with the symphonies of Akron, Canton, and Youngstown.

In short, he’s been around.

This weekend, Neubert will step out from the BlueWater ranks to perform as soloist, joining guest conductor Tiffany Chang for her debut with the Orchestra. The program is titled “Opulent Oboe and Scintillating Symphony” — the opulence coming from German-American composer Lukas Foss’s Concerto, the scintillation from Haydn’s Symphony No. 103 in E-flat, “Drumroll.” Apologies to Beethoven for missing out on the fun adjectives, but his Overture to The Creatures of Prometheus, Op. 43 should make for a strong opener.

The newest makeover: Community Partnership for Arts and Culture is now Arts Cleveland

As the colors of summer are transforming into shades of autumn, fall fashion lines are emerging, and fresh school supplies are on the market, the influential Community Partnership for Arts and Culture is donning a new look. The organization has been revamping several aspects of its business strategy, including a new name and a new logo. Beginning this season, it will be known as Arts Cleveland. [Read more…]

Cuyahoga Arts & Culture announces grants to 196 organizations

CAC-Logo-SquareCuyahoga Arts & Culture (CAC) has announced that it will invest $27,183,242 in grants to 196 arts and culture organizations in Cuyahoga County through its 2015-16 General Operating Support and 2015 Project Support grant programs. The grant award amounts were approved by CAC’s Board of Trustees during its meeting and celebration event on Monday afternoon, November 24 at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

“Cuyahoga Arts & Culture is honored to support Cuyahoga County’s arts and cultural heritage on behalf of our county’s residents,” said Sari Feldman, president of CAC’s Board of Trustees. “This dedicated source of public funds for arts and culture strengthens the regional economy through strategic investment in a vibrant arts community.” [Read more…]

Cuyahoga Arts & Culture announces 2014 Project Support Grants on November 18

CAC-Logo-SquareSince 2007, Cuyahoga Arts & Culture (CAC) has invested more than $97 million in 237 local organizations presenting arts and cultural activities in Cuyahoga County. On Monday, November 18 at the Jennings Center for Older Adults, CAC’s Board of Trustees announced that it would invest $1,891,902 in grants in 139 arts and culture organizations in Cuyahoga County next year through its 2014 Project Support grant program. CAC’s Project Support program funds Cuyahoga County-based projects that promote public access and encourage the breadth of arts and cultural programming in the community.

“I want to congratulate each of the organizations Cuyahoga Arts & Culture is funding in 2014, and we look forward to partnering with them in the coming months to benefit the community,” said Karen Gahl-Mills, CAC’s executive director. Approved by Cuyahoga County voters in 2006, CAC’s vision for its first ten years of public funding for arts and culture is to help build stronger, more resilient organizations, create vibrant and energetic neighborhoods infused with culture, and establish Cuyahoga County as a hub of creative activity and a destination for artists. “On behalf of all county residents, CAC is funding more arts and culture programs for more people in more places than ever before,” Gahl-Mills added.

The diversity of groups and projects that were approved for funding at Monday’s meeting is impressive, a true showcase of the cultural richness and diversity of Cuyahoga County. [Read more…]

Cuyahoga Arts & Culture at work — Jazz at the Settlement program

CAC-Settlement1Last week Cuyahoga Arts & Culture (CAC) released new data demonstrating that public funding for arts and culture is having a positive impact on the residents of Cuyahoga County. The Report focuses on CAC’s work in strengthening community in Cuyahoga County, by Enriching community, Enhancing education and Contributing to our local economy. “Each year CAC publishes a report that helps to show the public how their investment is being spent, and that it’s a good investment,” says CAC’s executive director, Karen Gahl-Mills. “But what I take away from this particular report, is that [not only do] we have great statistics but now that we’ve been [funding organizations] since 2006, we also have some great stories to tell.” One story that is highlighted in the report is the Cleveland Music Settlement’s Jazz at the Settlement (JAMS) program.

Music Settlement President and CEO Charles Lawrence says that when CAC dollars first started coming to the Settlement, he had just joined the organization and was looking at ways to inject new energy into the school’s department of music. [Read more…]
