Tuesday Musical launches season with “Because of You,” a tribute to Tony Bennett

For more than three decades, pianist/singer/arranger/educator and historian Michael Feinstein has dedicated himself to bringing the music of the Great American songbook to the world. And of the many interpreters of that musical genre, the name Tony Bennett stands above most others.

On Tuesday, October 22 at 7:30 pm at E.J. Thomas Hall in Akron, Tuesday Musical will launch their new season with Michael Feinstein’s “Because of You,” a tribute to the iconic singer featuring the Carnegie Hall Big Band. Tickets are available online.

Cleveland Orchestra delivers magical night of American song with help from pianists Michael Feinstein, Jean-Yves Thibaudet (July 23)

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio — Pianists Jean-Yves Thibaudet and Michael Feinstein joined their four hands and Feinstein’s engaging vocals in a newly-minted cabaret show at Blossom on Sunday evening, July 23. “Two Pianos: Who Could Ask for Anything More?” explores well-known and rediscovered music by George Gershwin and other selections from The Great American Songbook, along with works by 20th-century classical composers interleaved with anecdotes and engaging chit-chat.

The show, now making the rounds of summer festivals, can either be performed with just two artists on a pair of grand pianos or with a full symphony orchestra. [Read more…]

Looking forward to the summer season: a conversation with Cleveland Orchestra artistic administrator Ilya Gidalevich

Blossom-Lawn-071115Now that summer is officially upon us, it’s time to locate the picnic basket, fill it with your favorite summer foods, and head to the Cuyahoga National Park with family and friends to enjoy a Cleveland Orchestra concert at Blossom Music Center. And, if anyone in your vehicle is under the age of 18, their seat on the lawn is free.

If you can’t make it to Blossom, the Orchestra has scheduled three early Friday evening concerts in its Summers@Severance series. Special “happy hour” drink prices will be offered one hour prior to each concert on Severance Hall’s front terrace. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and enjoy the outdoor delights of University Circle.

Preview: Tri-C JazzFest: Michael Feinstein — a conversation about The Gershwins and Me

FEINSTEIN-MichaelKnown as “The Ambassador of the Great American Songbook,” Columbus native Michael Feinstein will make his Tri-C JazzFest debut with his popular show The Gershwins and Me on Friday, April 26 at 8:00 pm in the Palace Theatre at Playhouse Square.

Feinstein, a multi-platinum-selling, two-time Emmy and five-time Grammy Award-nominated entertainer, performs more then 200 shows a year in such venues as Carnegie Hall, the Sydney Opera House, Buckingham Palace and the White House as well as his Manhattan nightclub, Feinstein’s at Loews Regency.

In addition to serving on The Library of Congress’s National Sound Recording Advisory Board, Feinstein also hosts the popular NPR show Song Travels. He is the director of a new popular music series for Jazz at Lincoln Center and in 2007, he created the Michael Feinstein Great American Songbook Initiative, now headquartered in Carmel, Indiana. With its mission to bring the music of the Great American Songbook to young people today and to preserve it for future generations, The Great American Songbook Initiative’s activities include a high school vocal competition, The Great American Songbook Hall of Fame, numerous educational activities and an archive and gallery.
